PAUL DION July 21, 1923 - December 27, 2008 It is with great sadness the family of Paul Dion announces his passing, on December 27, 2008, with his family by his side. He will be missed and fondly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Mary; children: Allan (Susan) Dion; Evelyn (Larry) Tycholis; Jerry (Sandi) Dion; Stephanie Dion; Darlene (Wayne) Jonasson; John (Deb) Dion; Andre (Cathy) Dion; Doug (Tricia) Dion; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Paul was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Sophie; along with his brothers, George and Arthur; and sister Marie Buckmaster. He also leaves to remember him, his brothers, Joe (Genie), Edward (Barbara) and Marcel (Carol); sisters-in-law, Joyce Dion and Sophie Dion; and many nieces and nephews. Paul was born in Fisher Branch, Manitoba, where he spent his early years growing up and farming. After his marriage to Mary in 1948, he moved to Winnipeg where he worked as a driver for Winnipeg Transit Authority for 34 and a half years, until he officially retired in March 1987. He lived in the inner city for 58 years, and was involved in the community where he lived, having served as President of the Central Community Centre, (Freight House Recreation Centre). He involved his 2 younger sons in community hockey and loved to watch them play. Paul had a full life and enjoyed his time spent visiting with family and friends, and especially, treasured his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved the outdoors and there were countless fishing, hunting and camping trips with his family over the years. He spent many happy hours fishing on the Red River with his sons and best friends, hoping to catch that big 'greenback'. He was an extraordinarily good cook and a master at preparing and smoking meats and fish and everyone enjoyed the benefits of his passion. Paul was a lifetime member of the Transit Wildlife Association and supported the organ-ization selling raffle tickets, which fund the operations of the Transit Wildlife Association Lodge at Eleanor Lake, until he fell ill. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nursing staff at the Health Sciences Centre in the GA-4 and GD-5 units, for the care they provided to Dad. Prayers will be held on Thursday, January 1, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., West St. Paul, MB. The funeral service and interment will be held on Friday, January 2, 2009 at 10:00 a.m., at Glen Eden Funeral Home - Father Isidore Dziadyk, OSBM will officiate. Pallbearers will be: Gary Dion, Larry Dion, Justin Dion, Jeffrey Schalla, Gordon Wladyka and Rocky Buckmaster. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a charity of your choice, in memory of Paul. GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 338-7111
