HAROLD PERCY NORQUAY In the early morning of December 29, 2008, our loving husband, father and grandfather, Harold Percy Norquay, of Winnipeg, MB passed away, after a brief battle with cancer, at age 82. Harold was predeceased by brothers, Bob, Fred, Bill, Clifford, John and sisters, Jean, Florence and Mary. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elsie; daughters, Lynn, Shirley (Timo); grandson Curtis (Shelly); sister Agnes and many nieces and nephews. Harold was born May 29, 1926 and grew up on Pleasant Valley Road near Grandview, MB. After leaving school, he worked as a farm hand until he was old enough to the join the Army in 1944. He served until the end of the Second World War moving to Winnipeg after an honourable discharge. This is where he met his wife Elsie and they wed April 5, 1947. Harold spent 35 years working for the City of Winnipeg as a surveyor, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Canadian Legion Branch No. 81, where he could be found partaking in the many crib tournaments. As he grew older, he became known as Grandpa to those close to him. After retiring he was able to hone his skill at what he called puttering as he loved spending the day around the yard doing small jobs and always had a project whether it was upholstering, building birdhouses or making wine. He took great enjoyment in feeding his birds and squirrels and would fill the cracks of the hydro poles with peanut butter for his little friends. His dogs, Penny and Ralph, were always at his side keeping him company when he could not get out. If you were looking for Grandpa he could be found making out his lotto tickets as his turn was just around the corner. Although he never got to see his polar bears, his dreams were as big as the sky and those who got to know him, will miss that. Harold attended the Prince of Peace High Steppers Program and he greatly cherished the friendships he made every Thursday afternoon. He enjoyed the company and he leaves many fond memories. The family would like to thank all the staff from MB Home Care, especially, Peter and Blaine, the staff of Concordia Hospital N1 and Misericordia Health Centre 5th floor. A special thank you to Pastor Stacy Moroz for bringing comfort to Grandpa when he needed it the most. A memorial service to celebrate Harold's life will be held Saturday, January 3, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 930 Winakwa Rd., with Pastor Stacy Moroz officiating. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Prince of Peace Senior's Social Centre, 930 Winakwa Rd., Winnipeg, MB R2J 1E7. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
