OLAFUR AUGUST PALSON It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, on December 27, 2008, at the age of 74, after a courageous nine year battle with cancer. Oli is lovingly remembered by his wife Inga, of 40 years; his son Douglas; his daughters, Laureen and Leslie. His granddaughters, Tanya and Sarah; his brothers, Wilbert (Olga) and Albert (Valerie); his sister Mae (Oli); his sisters-in-law, Pat, Audrey (George); brother-in-law Arnim; and his numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Oli was predeceased by his parents, Ebenezer and Villa Palson. His brothers, Thor and George (twin); and sisters, Helga, Bogga and Steinunn. Oli was born and raised at home on the family farm, Reyhola (Riverton). After his graduation he began his career in electronics by attending college in Winnipeg, followed by working at Advance TV. He then opened his own business, Palson's TV, in Arborg, MB, which he operated for 44 years. Oli was a loyal friend to his customers. He often said he was there for and with the people . He carried this concept across to the community by being a devoted volunteer. He was a founding member of the Lion's Club, a staunch member and the chairperson of the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church and the chairperson of Riverdale Place Homes for the mentally challenged, where his humour and friendly enthusiasm made him a favourite with all. Oli was also a member of the Icelandic league, Esjan where he enjoyed Icelandic lessons. Oli married Inga in 1968. They settled in Arborg, later moved to the Geysir farm and finally to Vatshild in Hnausa on Lake Winnipeg. Oli called Lake Winnipeg his big swimming pool . He enjoyed boating, fishing, snowmobiling, visiting neighbours and generally being outdoors, watching the geese flying overhead and working in the garden. Oli's biggest love was visiting with his many relatives across Canada and around Manitoba. He revelled in reunions and the many surprise events organized by his family and cherished his recent trip to Iceland and to Leslie's wedding in Colombia. Oli will be fondly remembered by his relatives and friends, for his enthusiasm for life and helpful caring support. His passing leaves an enormous gap in many lives. A special thank you to nieces, Linda and Mae, for their devoted nursing care, and to all the numerous close friends and relatives for their generous support. Cremation has taken place and the interment of ashes will occur in the summer. A celebration of Oli's life will be held on January 10, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church, in Arborg. In his memory, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church. Gotta Nott, Oli min.
