Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRONALD D. LYON It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ron Lyon. He died peacefully at the Gimli Community Health Centre on December 24, 2008 after a two and one half year battle with multiple myeloma. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sharan, sister Marilyn Lyon of Winnipeg, daughter Brenda Lyon, son-in-law Mike Yacentiuk and grandchildren Jayms, Chloe, and Mikey of Carman, Manitoba. He is also remembered by his cousin Beverley Dodds and her daughter Jennifer of Vancouver, B.C. Ron was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Lilias, son Kenneth, nephew Ian Brice, and cousin Jim Dodds. Ron was born August 11, 1934 in Winnipeg and lived there until 2003 when he and Sharan moved to their cottage in Gimli. He spent most of his growing years in the Fort Rouge area and attended Kelvin High School. Ron's career with the Province of Manitoba, Department of Natural Resources lasted 43 years until he retired in 1994. He had great respect for his co-workers and often mentioned that his best years were in the Wildlife Branch and Manitoba Habitat Heritage Corporation. Ron's neighbours helped him build the cottage in 1969 and from that time on many of his happiest days were at Gimli, especially when his family arrived for summer vacation. His favourite winter spot was Tucson, Arizona where he and Sharan made many new friends. Other much-loved pastimes included auto mechanics, modern music, hunting, and spending time in his workshop. Ron appreciated the support he received from his family and friends during his illness. The family would like to thank the staff at the Gimli Hospital for their compassionate care and also thank Dr. Pat Harris. Respecting Ron's wishes, there will be no funeral. If friends desire, a donation in Ron's memory may be made to: Chemotherapy Unit, Gimli Community Health Centre, Gimli Manitoba, R0C 1B0. Neil Bardal Inc. 204-949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca

Although I worked for Fisheries Branch and Ron worked for Wildlife Branch, he and I often enjoyed coffee together at 1495 St. James St. He was always genuinely kind and cheerful. He helped out a lot when the new walled offices were being constructed. He was always interested in my projects both at work and at home. He will always remain in my memory as a great guy. - Posted by: Walt Lysack (friend) on: Feb 02, 2023
