CLAIRE ANNETTE HASTIE 1917 - 2008 Mom peacefully passed away on Saturday December 27, 2008 at Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg. Born on January 5, 1917 in Fort Frances to Ed and Alma Roy. Mom spent most of her life in Fort Frances with the exception of three years in Prince Rupert, B.C. and three years in Virginia, Minnesota. In earlier years mom spent time knitting sweaters, mostly curling sweaters. Both her and dad were real curlers and spent many hours at the rink and on bonspiels. Mom loved to can and it really showed as the shelves were full of pickles and jams. Mom belonged to bridge clubs both in the Fort and in the Falls . She was a life member of the Catholic Women's League. Her and dad spent many long hours working for the Kiwanis Club raising money for Sunny Cove and Meals on Wheels. It was dear in their hearts. Her and dad's big love was the lake. They fished often and visited their many friends along the way. In the summer mom and dad would enjoy having the grandkids to themselves to spoil. We would have to undo it when we got them home. Fishing, swimming and ice cream are hard to beat. In later years they spent winters in Mesa, Arizona and San Diego, California. Mom was predeceased by the love of her life Ray, her parents Ed and Alma Roy, brothers Edmour, Roland, Clem and Bob. And by her son-in-law Dennis Krestanowich. Left to cherish her memory is daughter Sharon and son Mark and wife Kris. Her grandchildren Paul (Cory), Jason, Lisa (Mike) Tottle, and Ryan and Reid Hastie. Her great-grandchildren Zachery, Samantha and Sean Tottle, Adam, Madeline, Aaron and Colin Krestanowich. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place in Fort Frances in the Spring of 2009. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Kiwanis Club for Sunny Cove Camp or a charity of one's choice.
