MEL BURNSIDE Peacefully, on December 25, 2008, our father Mel Burnside, passed away, at the age of 90. He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Wiens (John), Lorraine Nishio (Don); and son Don Burnside (Jo-Anne). His four grandchildren, Derrick, Mark, Mike and Carlos. He was predeceased by his wife Dean. Mel was born in Navwigewauk, Kings County, New Brunswick, on July 18, 1918 to parents, Melville and Lillian Burnside; and was one of 11 children. Mel served in the armed forces during the Second World War, as a paratrooper. After the war Mel met and married Dean Daman on August 19, 1944. Mel worked for CN Rail for many years, retiring at the age of 55. After retirement from the railway, he enjoyed many years of travelling with his wife Dean to Arizona for the winters and spending summers at Nutimik Lake. Mom and Dad had a lot of lifelong friends that they loved to be with. After Dean's passing, he met Blanche Hanson and they continued to enjoy travelling to many other places together. Dad had a very long and enjoyable life for he loved to meet new people and see many different places. We will miss you, Dad With all our love, Cheryl, Lorraine and Don A private family service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society or a charity of one's choice.
