He will be lovingly remembered by Selma, his wife of 61 years; his daughters, Leah and Susan (Steven Barer), and his grandchildren, Marcina and Jacob Albersheim-Carter, Benjamin and Amichai Barer. He will be dearly missed not only by his wife, children, and grandchildren, but also by his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, cousins and all the other family members and friends whose lives he touched. A Holocaust survivor who lost his family in Nazi Germany, Eugene came to Canada during the Second World War and built a new life here with the support of Selma, her (Gumprich) family, and close friends that he formed in the German Jewish community. He built a thriving business, Sport Ease Fashions, which he ran successfully until his retirement in 1997. Eugene will be remembered for his positive attitude, generosity, and quiet, unassuming but energetic personality. Even during his last five years at the Simkin Center, his gentle spirit and warm smile touched the hearts of the caring and loving staff. The family sincerely appreciates the staff who treated him with such dignity and respect. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 31st at Congregation Etz Chayim. Donations in Eugene's memory may be made to some of his most cherished organizations, the Winnipeg Holocaust Center, Congregation Etz Chayim, or to the Alzheimer's Society or Simkin Center.

Mr. Albersheim was a sweet, gentle man who lived across the lane from me, for 50 yrs. He was a fine person, one who went thru hell but never let it on. He always and a smile on his face. I will always remember him. - Posted by: Craig Aikman (neighbor ) on: Jan 28, 2015
