Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLILLIAN GUDNY JOHNSON 1916 2008 Peacefully on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga, Ontario Lillian passed away at the age of 92. Lillian was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on April 6, 1916 to Rev. Dr. B.B. Jonsson and Ingiridur Jonsson. Lillian attended Wellington Principal Sparling and Daniel MacIntyre Collegiate. She became a Registered Nurse at Winnipeg General Hospital in January 1939 and became a Public Health Nurse in 1944. Lillian was predeceased by her husband Harold Johnson, who died January 25, 1982, brothers Emil and Ralph, sisters Anne Beaton, Agnes Stewart, Esther Pitblado and Maria Farewell, and cousin Beatrice Johnson. She is survived by her sons Bob Johnson of Calgary, AB, Harold Johnson (and his wife, Ana) of Mississauga, ON, her Mississauga family: Laura and Leo, Carlos, Leo and Shirley, Agustin and Santiago; Heather and Holly in New Zealand, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends in Winnipeg and across Canada. Lillian was born and raised in Winnipeg and lived most of her life here. She was extremely proud of her Icelandic heritage. She received her R.N. and then studied for her Public Health Nursing Certification. It was in Public Health that she found her true calling in nursing. She worked with the Winnipeg Children's Aid until starting her family. Lillian married the love of her life, Harold in 1946. They eventually settled on Clifton Street where they resided while they raised the family. In 1967 Lillian returned to the workforce by joining the City of Winnipeg Public Health Department where she worked as a Public Health Nurse in several schools in the city and served many districts until her retirement in 1981. Lillian was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Winnipeg her entire life. After moving from Clifton Street, Lillian lived in Westwood Towers and then Kiltartan Towers. In 2002 Lillian moved to Mississauga, Ontario to be near family, where she resided until her death. Lillian enjoyed music and was passionate about Opera from an early age. In her retirement, Lillian became very astute and knowledgeable the investment field. Lillian always felt that she had been blessed with a wonderful life, and those of us that were fortunate to know her were truly blessed to have her as a part of our lives.
