ARTHUR KREIS April 15, 1932 January 2, 2009 Peacefully on Friday January 2 2009, Arthur Kreis passed away at the age of 76, with family at his side. Arthur was born on April 15, 1932 in Rosenfeld, Ukraine. He immigrated to Canada with his parents Lydia and Wilhelm in the fall of 1950. Dad enjoyed many years hunting and fishing with his closest friends and family. He spent many years coaching soccer and four years convening soccer. He retired from Westfair Foods in 1993 after 37 years and spent his retirement going on several trips with Frieda to Alaska, Germany and Alberta to visit with family. Dad enjoyed doing daily crosswords and keeping up with the latest sports scores especially the soccer scores. The family always knew not to plan events on Saturday mornings because Dad didn't want to miss watching soccer. Dad would go on daily two hour walks and while on these walks he kept his neighbourhood clean of unwanted bottles and cans. He had a special way of taking care of these unwanted items, neatly stacking and labeling everything. Dad made the best wine which he shared with everyone. Family gatherings were never without Dad's wine and a few prosits. Opa cherished his grandchildren, they were the light of his life and they in turn cherished their Opa. Dad always felt that his grandchildren could do no wrong and Opa and Oma's house was a free zone where their parents had no say. Dad was a no fuss, no nonsense sort of guy who told it like it was. For those of us that loved and admired him we will always remember how much he loved and admired all of us in return. Arthur leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife and best friend of 51 years, Frieda; daughter and son-in-law Irmgard and Kelwyn Eklund, son and daughter-in-law Peter and Wanda Kreis; grandchildren Scott (Averie), Tami (Brian), Kaitlyn (Cole), Paxton and Xander; sister Frieda Rothenberger and numerous family and friends in Canada and Europe. Special thanks to Dr. Harris and her team of Angels at the Grace Hospital CancerCare, The 5th floor staff at the Grace Hospital, Drs. Parham, Inglis and Reyhall for their exceptional care of Dad. A celebration of Arthur's life will take place on Wednesday January 7, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street with Pastor Heimo Bachmeyer officiating.
