GERTRUDE (TRUDY) MACKAY (nee OGSTON) We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Gertrude (Trudy) MacKay. Trudy passed away peacefully in Winnipeg on January 2, 2009 at the age of 91 years. Trudy will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Carol Peters, son-in-law Richard, grandchildren Michelle (Andy) and Erin, great-grandchildren Isabella and Aiden as well as extended family and friends. Trudy was predeceased in 1996 by her husband Walter with whom she shared 54 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her parents James and Johanna Ogston, her brothers Jim and Jock Ogston and her sister Nell Brown. Trudy was born in Winnipeg on College Avenue on March 11, 1917 and was always extremely proud of her Scottish heritage. She grew up in the North End, attending Luxton School and St. John's High School, and was a particularly gifted student. She attended St. John's Presbyterian Church. Trudy resided on Atlantic Avenue and Bannerman Avenue for many years, later moving to East Kildonan. Our loved one, though quiet and reserved, was a nurturing wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was frugal but extremely generous. She ran a spotless and organized household and was a wonderful cook and baker. We recall with fondness her Swiss Steak, homemade lasagna, mincemeat tarts and broken glass dessert. Trudy was proud of her diverse working career that included employment at Duboy's Cleaners, Eaton's Gift Wrapping and Candy Section and as a billing clerk at the Mall Medical Group. Trudy enjoyed many interests and hobbies. She particularly loved her vacation trips with Carol and Walter. Embroidery was a special skill of hers. Radio contests were there to be entered and won. The Jumble puzzles and Crossword puzzles were generally completed by Trudy in ink. She participated in 5-pin bowling leagues, attended bingo games and loved attending movies. She enjoyed listening to Swing Era music, watching old movies on T.V., and was addicted to Mash and The Tonight Show. Trudy was also an enthusiastic gardener. Trudy was an avid sports fan. In her younger days she and her father would watch Walter play Junior hockey. She was a Blue Bomber season ticket holder for a time. She was a big fan of the Yankees and later became a staunch Blue Jays supporter. The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Fort Garry Care Centre and Meadowood Manor for their devoted care. A private family service will be held. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends desire, donations may be made in remembrance of Trudy to the charity of one's choice. Chapel Lawn 885 - 9715
