VERA CHAPKO (nee CHARNEY) Peacefully, on Saturday, January 3, 2009, Vera Chapko passed away surrounded by the love of her family. Vera was predeceased by her infant children, Edward and Janice, her husband Paul, grandson Shaun Chapko, and son-in-law Wayne Hradowy. She was also predeceased by five sisters and three brothers. She will be lovingly missed by her sons, Lenard (Pat), Bernie (Sandra); daughters, Mariann and Carole (Bill); grandchildren, Michael Barrett, Salene Turner (Kevin), Jason Hradowy, Kirt Chapko (Heather), Jody Zemliak (Craig), Sharlene Will (Cory), David Chapko, Daniel Chapko (Julie) and Sheldon Chapko; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Brooke, Nathan, Kyle, Madison, April, Desiree and Kodie. She will also be missed by her sisters, Audrey Gerelus (Maurice), Nell Francis and Adeline Bonkowski; and her brother Felix Chorney (Emily). Vera was born and raised in Garson, Manitoba. She married Paul in 1945 and they raised their family in Cooks Creek, MB until moving to Transcona in 1962. Vera was a hard-working person, loving wife, wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Special thanks to the many friends she made at East Park Lodge and the caring staff at Concordia Hospital. The funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 505 Brewster Street, Transcona on Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., Fr. Jan Spyrka officiating (Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will take place at a later date). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vera's name to the Park Manor Building Fund, 301 Redonda St., Winnipeg, MB R2C 1L7.
