MARY GUSHULIAK On January 3, 2009, Mom passed away. She departed the way she lived her life; with courage and dignity. We celebrate her journey as she joins her father Nickolai, and her mother Helen Dickal (Chornopyski). Mary was born in the RM of Stuartburn, on September 4, 1916, the eldest of four children. She remembered her uncle George carrying her across the Rouseau River to the family's new farmstead in Arbakka when she was less than 2 years old. Here she grew up, went to school, and married Bill Gushuliak. They had two sons, John William Gushuliak and Gary Alan Roy Gushuliak. Mary was predeceased by her parents; husband; sister Verna Kapkey, and her husband Nick; sister Wilma Bentley, and her son David; brother Matt Dickal, and his wife Shirley; and their daughter Toni; and his first wife Doris. Mary is survived by her son John (Carmen Lorca) and daughter-in-law Giselle; granddaughters, Jennifer (Byron Smith), Megan, and her son Gary (Patricia); and many nieces, nephews and cousins. We wish to thank the exceptional staff at Holy Family Nursing Home for their support and care through difficult times. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2009 at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St. with Reverend Father Bill Wasyliw officiating. Interment to follow at Transcona Cemetery.
