ADALGISO VOLPONE It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Adalgiso Volpone, on January 4, 2009, at the age of 83 years old. Adalgiso will be missed by his nephew Giannino Calista and wife Vincenza; great-nephew Andrew Calista (Stacey) and children, Kiara and Luca; great-niece Franca Colatruglio (Angelo) and children, Sonia and Giuseppe, of Winnipeg; Tony Marinelli and wife Lucia; great-nephews, Carmine Marinelli (Hayley), Adriano Marinelli and Riccardo Marinelli (Michelle); and child Eva, of Vancouver; sisters, Antonietta Volpone, Elisa Volpone (Alfredo); and numerous nieces and nephews, all in Abruzzo, Italy. Adalgiso was predeceased by brother Guido Volpone (Antonietta); sisters, Romana Volpone (Franco), Maria Volpone (Carmine) and brother-in-law Silvio Lucianetti, all of Abruzzo, Italy. Adalgiso was born on January 12, 1925, in Collecorvino, Pescara, Italy. In 1949, he left Italy and went to Belgium to work in the mining industry. In 1951, he arrived in Canada and worked in a number of industries including the railway, mines and construction, until he decided to return to Europe and work for four years in Germany and Italy. He returned to Canada in 1967 and settled in for the remaining 13 years of his working life at the Health Sciences Centre, retiring in 1985. Zio Adalgiso was a man of few words but the words he chose were ones with meaning and often times with a profound sense of wit and humour. He enjoyed spending time with his family where he could chat about Ferrari's chances in Formula 1 Racing over an authentic Italian home cooked meal. Zio never missed a family function where he took the opportunity to talk about the journeys he had in his life. He was one of the few people in Winnipeg who knew every inch of the city thanks to his love of walking. He would walk countless miles in a day and would take a keen interest in everything he saw including the construction of the Winnipeg Stadium addition, the Canwest Centre, the MTS Centre and the new Hydro Building, to name a few. He was an avid proponent of Canada and all the richness it had to offer, yet he struck a balance between the heritage of his mother country where he was born and the country that gave him many opportunities. We will all miss him. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue, on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with viewing one half hour prior to the mass. Rev. Father Sam Argenziano presiding. Entombment at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum, 3990 Portage Ave. Reception to follow entombment at Holy Rosary Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
