HELEN PATRICIA BUCKLEY On Monday, January 5, 2009, Helen passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 63 years. Helen Patricia Buckley was born on November 16, 1945 in Calgary, the middle daughter of Jack and Pat Buckley (neé Aull). She is predeceased by her father (September 1990), mother (September 2006) and older sister, Mary (November 2002). Helen is survived by her younger sister, Peggy (George Clark) and niece Beth of Regina; nephews William Clark (Calgary), Jeffery and Mike Peter (Yukon) and niece Katherine (Inuvik). Also mourning her loss are sister of choice, Roanna Hepburn and her partner, Lin Conover (Winnipeg); Gerald Brown (Winnipeg); Pearlette Louisy, George Theophilus, Martha Pierre, Gene Walters, Katherine Jemmott and Alexander Thomas (St. Lucia) and many colleagues, friends and students whose lives she touched deeply throughout hers. Helen was a creative, joyful and insightful woman who generously shared her time, her learning and abilities with all she met. Her work as an educator took her on adventures ranging from Toronto through northern Alberta, the Sunchild-O'Chiese and Morley Indian Reserves, Africa, Swan River (BUNTEP), the Winnipeg Education Centre, and most recently, St. Lucia where her work involved creating an innovative approach to teacher training through distance education, and teaching at Sir Arthur Lewis College in Castries. Helen will be greatly missed and remembered with profound love and gratitude for the time and adventures she shared with us in this life. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to may wish to contribute to the Steven Lewis Foundation (www.stevenlewisfoundation.org) to further work supporting treatment of people living with HIV/AIDS in Africa.
