Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILHELMINA (MINNIE) GOLTZ On Saturday, January 10, 2009, Minnie passed away at the Fred Douglas Lodge at the age of 99 years. Auntie Min was born April 2, 1909 to Fred and Sophia Rattai and was raised on their farm near Beausejour, Manitoba. She was avidly looking forward to celebrating her 100th birthday, but that was not to be. Remaining to forever cherish Minnie's memory are her brother Ed Rattai of Kenora, Ontario and many nieces and nephews, including Joan (Al) Reimer, Winnipeg, Erika (Jack) Carroll, Winnipeg, Vera (George) Lucko, Invermere, BC, Irene Dugard, Pine Falls, Marjorie (Gerry) Schatkowsky, Lac du Bonnet, Bill (Freda) Frederick Jr., Powell River, BC, George (Mary) Rattai, St. Albert, Alberta, Leonard (Donna) Rattai and Earl (Ellen) Rattai, Kenora, Ontario. She was predeceased by her husband Albert (1980), brother August Rattai (1971), sister Wanda (Bill) Frederick (1976) and nephew Wilfred Rattai (2007). Auntie Min was a master seamstress, having designed and sewn many wedding dresses with lace, ribbons, beads et al. She and Albert farmed in the Beausejour area for about seventeen years before moving to Winnipeg, where she redecorated many houses, including staircases. She also crocheted numerous doilies and afghans and knitted sweaters, again from her own patterns. These were only a few of her many skills. She was also a lifetime member of the Lutheran Arms of the Cross Church. In her later years, after moving to the Lodge at the age of 95 and confined to her chair, Min became quite the sports fan and enjoyed watching golf tournaments and football games on T.V. Minnie's funeral service will be held on Wednesday evening, January 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue, Winnipeg, with Pastor Don Engel of Lutheran Church of The Cross, presider. For those who wish, viewing will be held prior to Minnie's funeral service. A private family interment will be held in Brookside Cemetery. We extend special thanks to Kelly Thiessen, daughter of Erika Carroll, for her dedicated care of Auntie Min, and to the staff at Fred Douglas Lodge. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Minnie's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
