MARY JANE DUNCAN (nee DEEGAN) August 10, 1941 January 11, 2009 Peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2009, Mary Jane Duncan passed away at the Riverview Health Centre with her family at her side. Mary Jane has moved on to join her parents Ella and George Deegan; brother Dennis Deegan, and much cherished family. Mary Jane is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Douglas; her two daughters, Michelle (Grant) Thorsteinson and Kristin (Derek) Duncan and her four grandchildren, Dakota, Cameron, Delaney and Caelyn; sister-in-law Adele Deegan; nephew Damien, niece Keele; family friend Fergus Lopez. Mary Jane was born in Winnipeg and grew up in the West End. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1959, completed commercial, and went on to work for Charles Huband at Richardson's where she first met Doug. Through the years Doug, Mary Jane, and family lived in Montreal and in Edmonton. The family returned to Winnipeg in 1998. Mary Jane called herself a domestic engineer. She ran a fine house with home cooked meals, chocolate chip cookies and an open door to everyone. Her world centered on Doug and her girls. She delighted in family gatherings and spending time with friends. She also spent much of her time volunteering at her girls' schools and the church. Mary Jane had a warm heart and a beautiful smile. Mary Jane has spent the past three years at Riverview Health Centre after an early onset of Dementia. The family is very appreciative of the care that she received at Riverview and wishes to express their sincere thanks to all the staff that helped Mary Jane live her life to the fullest. A Funeral Mass to celebrate Mary Jane's life will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Ignatius Church, corner of Stafford and Corydon.
