SHIRLEY PETERSON Peacefully on January 11, 2009 with family and friends by her bedside at the Lakeshore General Hospital, Shirley Peterson (Nanny) aged 76 years of Ashern, MB. Shirley was born on June 8, 1932 in Winnipegosis. She schooled in Winnipegosis, Ashern and attended the Angus Business College in Winnipeg. On August 30, 1952, she married Lloyd Peterson and later that year moved to Kenora, ON. Throughout her working career she was employed with Globelite Batteries in Winnipeg, Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora, and Ontario Hydro in Ear Falls and Kenora for 28 years. She retired from Ontario Hydro in 1989. Nanny is survived by her loving family, sister Loreen Russell (Jack) of Hamilton, ON; brother William Thomas (Shirley) of Kelowna, BC; son-in-law Steven Cook (Riane) of Ashern; granddaughters Joella da Costa (Chris) of Winnipeg, Jayme Galloway of Winnipeg, Alanna Falk of Winnipeg and grandson Michael Falk of Winnipeg along with numerous relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. She was predeceased by her husband Lloyd Peterson in 1973, father William Thomas in 1933, mother Eileen Thomas in 1999 and daughter Cheryl Lee Cook in 2000. A celebration of Shirley's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Ashern Gospel Chapel with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Service will conclude at the Chapel and an interment will follow at a later date. A lunch will follow the service in the Gospel Chapel. Honorary Pallbearers will be Steven Cook, Chris da Costa, Jack Williams, Larry Williams, Peter Williams, Barry Rogers, Jerry Rogers, Brian Peterson, Ken Peterson and Art Peterson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2B7 or to the Ashern Gospel Chapel, General Delivery, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0.
