SARAH LEPKIN (nee KARR) 1910 - 2008 Our Baba Sarah passed away on November 28, 2008 with her children at her side. She was loved, admired and will be missed by her children Willa and Allan Adelman; grandchildren - her four boys as she referred to them - Earl (Debra), Larry (Eva), David (Jody), Daniel (Lisa); and darling eight great- grandchildren, Michelle Fritzi , Jaimie, Cara, Lauren, Alexa, Aviva, Jenna, and Gavin. Born in Winnipeg to Dina and William Kurnarsky, Sarah - or Sally as some knew her - was the youngest of her siblings Bert, Fritzi, Max, Lou, Harry, and Joe, all of whom predeceased her. Sarah was a bright, beautiful woman who became hearing impaired in early childhood; this did not deter her enjoying life to the fullest. She married in 1932 our Zaida, Benny Lepkin (of Blessed Memory). In their retirement years, they wintered in Hawaii until his passing in 1986; she continued to travel annually on her own until her 90th birthday. Notwithstanding her hearing impairment, Baba Sarah's uncanny ability to lip read helped her to live in a hearing world . She loved to dance and could feel within her the beat of the music. She possessed a voracious appetite for reading, regularly kept up with local and world events, and frequently offered her opinion. Well into her 90s, she continued to tackle the New York Times crossword puzzles and was always looking for a bridge game. Up until her demise, her mind was sharp. Baba Sarah enjoyed a keen sense of humor. She could perceive the irony in situations where others could not. Just a twinkle in her eye would betray her understanding. Her love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren was very strong. Their love for her was very special. In their own way, each shared a unique relationship with her. How fortunate was she to have the love and care of her friend and companion, Kathy. A graveside service was held on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at Etz Chaim Memorial Park. Marvin Slutchuk officiated. Pallbearers were grandchildren Earl, Larry, and Daniel Adelman; great-grandchild Jaimie Adelman; and Sean and Marlon Slutchuk. Honourary pallbearers were grandson David Adelman and great-grandson Gavin Adelman. We Love You And Miss You Never To Be Forgotten Many thanks to all our friends and family for their thoughtful, generous, and very comforting expressions of condolences.
