DONNA LORRAINE TRAVIS (nee MCGILLIVARY) May 11, 1933 - January 9, 2009 After a four week battle with cancer, it is with a feeling of extreme loss that we announce the passing of our mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend on January 9, 2009. Mom's spirited ways will be carried on in the family she leaves behind. Daughter Tracey Travis Gillis, son-in-law Alan Gillis, grandchildren, Travis and Cody Gillis, all of Winnipeg, grandchildren Devin and Deidra, along with great-grandchildren of Medicine Hat, AB; sisters-in-law, Rita Busby of Toronto, ON, and Terry Schaefer of Grunthal, MB; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mom was predeceased by her father Alden McGillivary, mother Christina McGregor; husband Bert Travis whom she missed dearly; father-in-law Steve Travis and daughter Michelle Jackson. Mom overcame many obstacles in her life. She suffered a massive hemmorragic stroke at the young age of 31. With strength, courage, stubborness and determination she overcame her limitations. She went on to live a life full of happiness and proud moments. She stood behind her family through thick and thin. She was definitely the protector of the home. Again at the age of 73, she suffered another stroke and overcame these hurdles as she did in her younger years. She was definitely working on Donna's time. Mom, throughout your life here, you met many, all of whom were touched by knowing you. Your giving nature, kind heart, patience and concern for others will leave a legacy never to be forgotten. You definitely were one of a kind. Mom, you have etched a mark in our souls, your memory will forever be with us. Your work here is now done and it is now time for you to rest and be with our loved ones. I know that you will continue to protect and guide us until we meet again. Mom, I love you and will cherish the last 42 years that I have had the blessing to have been able to share mine and my family's life with you. Forever in our hearts and thoughts. The one and only mother a daughter could want. A heartfelt thank you to Victoria Hospital unit 5 nurses, Shawna C., Marian B., Wendy D. and Suzanne G. for their compassion and care shown to our Mom. They went above and beyond the duty of nurses. Also a thank you to family, friends and co-workers who offered their support over this most difficult time. Please come and join us in a celebration of my Mom's life. Bring a few words to share. Rest in Peace Mom Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 17, 2:00 p.m. at Wheeler Funeral Chapel, 211 Regent Ave., W. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to CancerCare. Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler Funeral Chapel, phone 224-1525.
