RENE LEONIDE JOSEPH DESAUTELS 29 juillet 1921 17 janvier 2009 René, époux, père, grand-père, frère, cousin, ami est décédé paisiblement à la Villa Youville, à Ste-Anne-des-Chênes, Manitoba à l'âge de 87 ans. Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse de 62 ans, Alma (née Leclaire), sa fille, Jeannine Porteous (Allen), et son fils, Louis (amie spéciale, Shelley); il laisse aussi ses petits-enfants Robert (Nicole), Ginette (Jarrod), Joanne (Jeff), Joël, Lynne et David (Kayli) ainsi que cinq arrière-petits-enfants, Sean, Ryan, Colin, Myla and Shaeli. Il laisse aussi ses frères, surs, beaux-frères et belles-surs, Laurette Landry (Léo) et Marie-Anne McDonald (Jim), Albert (Rita), Paul (Winnifred) et Fernand (Rose). Il laisse aussi nombreux cousins, cousines, neveux, nièces et ami.e.s. René fut prédécédé par ses parents, Léandre et Rose (née Gendron) Desautels, son demi-frère Thomas et belle-sur, Aurise, et ses frères Edmond, George, Philippe et belle-sur, Laurence, ainsi que ses demi-surs Alda Péloquin et Laura Rémillard. René est né à La Broquerie, Manitoba, mais a vécu la majorité de son enfance à Ste-Anne et à Lorette, chez ses grands-parents Médéric et Thérèse (née Tauffenbach) Gendron. Après son mariage avec Alma, il s'établit à Lorette où il éleva sa famille. Il exerça son métier de charpentier partout dans les alentours. Il prenait fierté dans son travail et sa réputation le précédait. Avec le temps, il a aussi établi une quincaillerie où on pouvait y trouver de tout. Jusqu'à un âge avancé, il a joui bien des heures à fabriquer des objets avec du bois utilisant ses outils favoris. C'était un merveilleux passe-temps! Un autre divertissement favori était de recevoir de la visite et de jouer une bonne partie de carte ou de shuffleboard. Il était très ambitieux, compétitif et était doué d'une incroyable habileté pour gagner aux jeux. Il était entouré de nombreux amis et connaissances avec qui il socialisait autant qu'il pouvait. Malgré sa réticence à voyager, René a tout de même fait plusieurs voyages dont il a bien joui en compagnie d'Alma. Par après, il ne pouvait cesser de nous parler de ses merveilleuses aventures. La famille tient à remercier de tout cur le personnel de l'Hôpital de Ste-Anne ainsi que de la Villa Youville pour tous leurs soins auprès de René. Leur professionnalisme et leur vigilance sur ses soins furent grandement appréciés. Un merci très spécial à Sr. Irène Rioux qui s'est rendue disponible pour nous guider et supporter durant ce temps douloureux et de veiller sur papa avec et sans notre présence. Merci aussi au Père Armand LeGal pour sa disponibilité et sa bienveillance durant cette période difficile de notre vie. Les prières et la messe de la Résurrection seront célébrées à l'église Notre-Dame-de Lorette, le mardi, 20 janvier à 13h00 et 13h30 respectivement. Les funérailles ont été confiées aux Frères LeClaire, 775-2220. RENE LEONIDE JOSEPH DESAUTELS July 29, 1921 - January 17, 2009 René, husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, friend passed away peacefully at the Villa Youville, in Ste-Anne-des-Chênes, Manitoba at the age 87. He will be sadly by his wife of 62 years, Alma (née Leclaire), his daughter, Jeannine Porteous (Allen), and his son, Louis (special friend, Shelley). René also leaves in mourning six grandchildren; Robert (Nicole), Ginette (Jarrod), Joanne (Jeff), Joël, Lynne and David (Kayli) as well as five great-grandchildren, Sean, Ryan, Colin, Myla and Shaeli; his brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Laurette Landry (Léo), Marie-Anne McDonald (Jim), Albert (Rita), Paul (Winnifred) and Fernand (Rose), as well as numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. René was predeceased by his parents, Léandre and Rose (née Gendrom) Desautels, his half-brother, Thomas and sister-in-law, Aurise, and his brothers Edmond, George, Philippe and sister-in-law, Laurence as well as his half sisters, Alda Péloquin and Laura Rémillard. René was born in La Broquerie, Manitoba but lived most of his childhood in Ste-Anne and in Lorette with his grandparents, Médéric and Thérèse (née Tauffenbach) Gendron. After his marriage to Alma, he made his home in Lorette where he raised his family. He worked in the surrounding area as a carpenter. He took great pride in his work and quickly built his reputation as a skilled craftsman. He eventually opened Lorette Lumber and Hardware where you could find a variety of construction materials. Until and advanced age, he spent many hours making a variety of wooden objects with his favorite tools. It was a marvelous pastime for him! Another of his favorite diversions was having guests over and playing cards or shuffleboard. He was an ambitious and competitive player who was blessed with skills at winning games. He took pleasure in frequently socializing with many friends and family members. Although he was not an avid traveller, he and Alma made may trips. Upon his return, he delighted us with accounts of all their adventures. The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff at Ste-Anne Hospital as well as the Villa Youville for the care shown to René. Their professionalism and dedication to the well-being of our husband/father were greatly appreciated. Our family conveys deep gratitude to S. Iréne Rioux in particular for her availability and guidance throughout that difficult time; she continually looked after Dad with or without our presence. Also, we express a very special thank-you to Father Armand LeGal for his availability and kindness towards Dad and our family. Prayers and mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at Notre-Dame-de-Lorette Church on Tuesday, January 20 at 1:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. respectively.
