DOREEN RUTH RICE (BENJAMIN) March 7, 1922 - January 16, 2009 Doreen R. Rice, of Bloomington, Indiana, died Friday, January 16, 2009 at Bloomington Hospital. She was 86 years old. Born March 7, 1922 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada she was the daughter of Arthur and Levina (McLean) Benjamin. She was a 1938 graduate of Kelvin High School in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was retired from Trans Canada Airlines where she worked in Space Control as well as Indiana University where she worked in the Bureau of Facilities Studies. She belonged to and was a founding member of the Lunch Bunch - a group of friends that met weekly for over 30 years to enjoy lunch and socialize. They were an extension of Doreen's family. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bloomington where she was an Elder, member of the Presbyterian Women and was Financial Secretary and Treasurer. She is survived by her son, Tom Rice and his wife Alyssa of Gosport and their children Nathan and Evan Rice; three sisters, Rose Lacey of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Eunice Neufeld and her husband Harry of Summerland, British Columbia, Frances Knowlson and her husband Mark of Courtenay, British Columbia; and one brother, Ed Benjamin and his wife Margurite of Winnipeg, Manitoba and one sister-in-law, Iris Benjamin. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Howard G. Rice Jr., and one brother, Douglas Benjamin. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 20 at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, with Reverend Ben Dorr officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Allen Funeral Home, 4155 S. Old St. Rd. 37 in Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church.
