Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD ZAROW SR. (ZAROWSKI) After a valiant seven year struggle with lymphatic cancer, Don passed away peacefully on January 14, 2009 at the Riverview Health Center. Our dad never lost hope that he could be cured of cancer. Don was born on April 30, 1940 in Winnipeg's colorful and vibrant North End, the only child of Anthony and Pearl Zarowski. Although he was an only child, he had many happy memories of growing up with his cousins from the Marykuca and Zarowski families. As a young man, Don was a gifted athlete and played football with St. John's High School and the Winnipeg Hawkeyes. His later passions turned to the outdoors and shooting sports. In 1964, he won The Manitoba Trapshooting Doubles Championship in Brandon, MB. Other pleasures in life included training his beloved Canadian Champion Springer Spaniels, hunting and fishing on pristine northern lakes and walking in the woods searching for morels (pitpanki) and Saskatoon berries. Many happy moments were enjoyed at the family farm at Silver, MB. with its large gardens and unlimited space for his grandchildren to play. Our dad was a true family man and nothing gave him as much pleasure as spending time with his family. Don was employed with Air Canada for 41 years, beginning with the company when he was 17 years old. He retired in 1999 as Lead Storekeeper in the Stores Department. Don is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Elsa, who has been his angel of strength while he fought cancer. He is also survived by his three sons, Doug (Diane), Donald Jr. and Paul (Nadine) whom he loved very much. Don's grandchildren Anthony, Nicholas and Ava provided their grandad with pure joy and pride. Don especially wanted his daughters-in-law to know that they were very special to him and he knew his grandchildren were in caring hands. In accordance with Don's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal funeral service. A private family interment will be held at a later date at Holy Family Cemetery. We love and miss you, Dad! Thank you for all you've done for us.
