JOANN LOUISE PIERCE (nee NORDIN) March 19, 1936 - January 18, 2009 Peacefully, after a lengthy and courageous battle with lung cancer, it is with deep regret that we announce the death of JoAnn Pierce. JoAnn quietly succumbed on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at the age of 72 years with her family and friends at her side. Remaining to forever cherish JoAnn's memory are her daughter D'Arcy Pierce; son Bryan (Darlene) Pierce; grandchildren, Tyler and Emma Pierce; brother Larry (Gwen) Nordin; sister Shirley (Marne) Thompson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. JoAnn was born on March 19, 1936 to parents Harry and Mabel Nordin. She grew up in Bergland, Ontario on Lake of the Woods working on a local houseboat with her mother and helping her father during fishing season. She moved to Winnipeg in her early thirties to raise her family and worked as an interior decorator. JoAnn later returned to Bergland to care for Mabel and more recently, spent her last year and a half in Winnipeg with her children who cared for her throughout her illness. Our mother loved animals, bird watching, baking and reading. But what made her most happy was sewing, knitting and crocheting gifts for family and friends. JoAnn was an experienced seamstress which included more than a few wedding gowns for those closest to her. These special items will leave behind many cherished memories. Her favourite charity was the Winnipeg Humane Society. A private celebration with family and friends will be held in JoAnn's honour. We would like to give special thanks to all the caregivers at Palliative Care at the St. Boniface Hospital for making her last days dignified and comfortable. Breathe deeply Mom and go fishing with Grandpa.
