JOAN MARY STODGELL It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Joan Mary Stodgell (nee Hartnett) on January 26, 2009, at the age of 87. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Dennis, Allan (Darlene) and Jack Stodgell; daughter Eileen Conan (Andre); grandchildren, Susan LeSergent and Jody Stodgell, Ryan, Shawna and Mitchell Stodgell, Leslie and Trevor Conan; great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Isaac, Emily, Kierra, Kyla, Kieran and Jolica; sister-in-law Noreen Hartnett and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Alexander of 43 years; her parents James and Helene Hartnett; brothers, John, Jim and Phillip Hartnett and grandson Lee Stodgell. Joan was born in London, England on June 11, 1921. During the Second World War she was working at Cable and Wireless in London as a typist-telephonist. This is when she met her future husband Alex, who was a soldier stationed in England. They were married in London on October 3, 1945. She came to Canada on the Queen Mary, with the other War Brides, seven months after Alex in June of 1946. While raising her four children she became an active member of the community, serving as a trustee for Leroy School and as a member of the Fisherton W.I. Joan belonged to the Legion Women's Auxiliary of Branch #158, volunteered at the gift shop at Percy E. Moore Hospital, a member of the Catholic Women's League and taught Catechism. While living in Ashern she enjoyed volunteering at the Personal Care Home and visiting the residents there. In her later years she enjoyed reading, playing cards, watching movies and visiting with friends. Spending time with her grandchildren gave her great joy. We would like to thank all of her home care workers and senior's resource drivers for their kindness and excellent care. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Fisher Branch, MB. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Fisher Personal Care Home in Fisher Branch. FISHER FUNERAL HOME INC. In care of arrangements. Fisher Branch, MB (204) 372-6271 or 372-6803
