ISABEL AGNES (ANN) SHAY (nee BALL) Died Monday, January 26, 2009 Ann was born March 26, 1937 to Robert and Irene Ball in England. She attended Holly Lodge School for girls and went on to receive her training as a registered nurse. It was during this time that Ann met her future husband. She married Dr. George Douglas Paul Shay on January 6, 1962. She emigrated to Canada as the wife of a general practitioner to Winnipegosis, MB. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1972, where they raised their four sons. Ann leaves to mourn her children, Timothy (Pamela), Christopher (Barbara), Tony (Kathi) and Don (Irene) and grandchildren, Joseph and Mack Shay. She is also survived by her mother, Irene Ball (Winnipeg), sisters; Elizabeth in Liverpool, and Margaret (David) in Minneapolis and numerous nieces and nephews. Ann was predeceased by her father, Robert Ball and her brothers, Norman and Robert Ball in the U.K. Ann was a very special person to her daughters-in-law (Barb, Pam, Kathi and Irene) and her grandsons Joe and Mack. She will be fondly remembered for her love of games, be it as a devoted hockey mum, a scrabble fanatic, and a lover of trivial pursuit, along with her passion for books and crossword puzzles. Ann has donated her body to the Department of Anatomy and Cell Science at the University of Manitoba. It was her wish to enable students to benefit from her life. The family would like to thank the staff at the Victoria General Hospital for their care and support over the last few months, as well as the compassionate staff at the St. Boniface hospital where she spent the last week of her life. The family will be having a celebration of Ann's life, our other/grandmother/sister/friend, from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, February 15, 2009 at 846 Oakdale Drive in Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, if they wish, friends may donate to The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
