CARLA GERLITZ (nee GUSTAFSON) Suddenly, while on vacation in Santiago, Chili, Carla passed away peacefully, on January 25, 2009. Carla is lovingly remembered by her husband Mel of Minaki, Ontario; daughters, Pam Simpson (Mike) of Winnipeg and Cathy Thorgrimson of Kenora and her grandchildren, Colin and Christine Simpson and Joelle and Mitchell Thorgrimson. Carla was born in Winnipeg and spent her early years in Minaki, returning to Winnipeg to complete her schooling at Balmoral Hall. After moving to Calgary, she met Mel and they married in 1956. They lived in Alberta until 1972, and moved to Minaki. For the past 20 years they have wintered in Weslaco, Texas. Carla enjoyed travelling and explored many different areas of the world, most recently to Antarctica to see the penguins, which was her dream. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arthritis Society.
