ALPHONSE LOUIS MICHAUD Le 30 janvier 2009, entouré de sa famille, Alphonse Michaud est décédé après avoir mené un long et courageux combat contre la maladie. Précédé dans la mort par son épouse bien-aimée Denise (née Freynet), le regretté défunt laisse dans le deuil ses cinq enfants: Nicole (Lawrence Oystryk), Gilbert (Rita Colette), Ginette, Benoit et Claude (Norma Dupont); ses petits-enfants: Stéphane et Patrick Oystryk, Christine, Daniel et Sylvie Michaud, Geneviève Auclair, Joëlle et Colin Michaud; son frère Thomas et son épouse Cécile ainsi que sa sœur Anna Aubin; ses belles-soeurs et beaux-frères : Fabiana (feu Arthur Boily), Lucile Freynet, Liliane et Alphonse Boily, Béatrice et Georges Boily, et Yolande Freynet; et de nombreux neveux, nièces et amis. Il a été prédécédé par ses parents, ainsi que son frère Amédée. Né le 18 juin 1928 à Sainte-Anne-des-Chênes, au Manitoba, Alphonse était le troisième fils de Georges et Rose Anna Michaud (née Kirouac). Il grandit sur la ferme paternelle et fréquenta l’école Saint-Alexandre à La Broquerie. Adolescent, il s’engagea dans les travaux de la ferme et, jeune adulte, travailla dans les chantiers de bois de la région de Middleboro. Il compléta sa formation de mécanicien à Edmonton suite à laquelle il exerça ce métier au garage Vielfaure à La Broquerie. En 1952, Alphonse épousa sa bien-aimée Denise (née Freynet). Ensemble, ils achetèrent la terre familiale à La Broquerie et y fondèrent une famille. Durant de courtes périodes de temps, il travailla sur le DEW (Distant Early Warning) Line du Grand Nord canadien et à Kenora pour le Ministère de la Voirie avant de quitter définitivement la ferme afin de se lancer dans une longue carrière d’entrepreneur. Il s’investit dans le commerce Shell de Falcon Lake, où pendant quatre ans il desservit une clientèle locale et saisonnière. Il déménagea ensuite sa famille à Saint-Boniface où il acheta le garage Shell, boulevard Provencher. Durant trente ans, il géra un commerce dynamique au cœur de Saint-Boniface. Commerçant dévoué à sa communauté, il se fait une renommée pour son service à la clientèle dans les deux langues. Au fil des années, d’autres stations s’ajoutèrent à son entreprise. La compagnie Shell et ses collègues le reconnaissent pour ses compétences et son succès dans le commerce. Alphonse était un homme infatigable. Tous voient en lui des qualités remarquables d’intégrité et d’honnêteté. Sa vie a été marquée par un dévouement incomparable pour son épouse, et il se montra inlassable lorsque celle-ci fut frappée par la maladie. Il se distingua aussi par un appui inconditionnel pour ses enfants et petits-enfants et sa préoccupation pour leur bonheur. Alphonse était un homme accueillant et abordable, au sourire facile. Ses passe-temps étaient la randonnée pédestre, le ski alpin et le vélo, ce qui atteste de son amour du plein-air et des espaces naturels. La famille tient à remercier les parents et les amis qui ont apporté leur généreux soutien à Alphonse et sa famille. Elle tient aussi à exprimer sa reconnaissance au personnel du Centre hospitalier Riverview pour les excellents soins prodigués. Predeceased by his loving wife Denise (née Freynet), Alphonse’s memory will be cherished by his children, Nicole (Lawrence Oystryk), Gilbert (Rita Colette), Ginette, Benoit and Claude (Norma Dupont). Alphonse was the devoted grandfather of eight: Stéphane and Patrick Oystryk, Christine, Daniel and Sylvie Michaud, Geneviève Auclair, Joëlle and Colin Michaud. He is survived by his brother Thomas (Cécile) and his sister Anna Aubin; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Fabiana (feu Arthur Boily), Lucile Freynet, Liliane and Alphonse Boily, Béatrice and Georges Boily, and Yolande Freynet; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Amédée. Born on June 18, 1928 in Sainte-Anne-des-Chênes, Manitoba, Alphonse was the third son of Georges and Rose Anna Michaud (née Kirouac). He grew up on the family farm in La Broquerie and attended Saint-Alexandre School nearby. As a young adult, he worked in the logging industry in the Middleboro region. Later he obtained his certification in diesel mechanics in Edmonton, and subsequently worked at the Vielfaure garage. He married his beloved Denise in 1952 and together the young couple acquired the family homestead. Together, they began to raise a family. While farming, Alphonse worked for short periods on the DEW (Distant Early Warning) Line in the Arctic and in Kenora for the Highways Department. In 1963, the couple sold the farm and Alphonse began a long career with Shell Canada. First establishing himself in Falcon Lake, Alphonse owned and operated the service station for four years, serving a local and seasonal clientele. He subsequently moved his family to Saint-Boniface where he purchased the Shell service station on Provencher Blvd. For over 30 years, he managed a successful business in the heart of Saint-Boniface. Devoted to his community, he ensured the availability of services in both languages. In time, he grew his enterprise into a multi-site operation. He was respected by his colleagues and recognized by the Corporation for his business acumen. Tireless in all facets of his life, he was also known for his honesty and integrity. His life was notable for an incomparable devotion to his spouse, which remained unwavering during her years of illness. He distinguished himself by his unconditional support of his children and grandchildren, and their well-being. Alphonse was outgoing, generous and welcoming. He enjoyed many activities including hiking, skiing and cycling, a testimony to his love of nature and the great outdoors. The Michaud family would like to thank all those who offered their generous support during Alphonse's illness. The family also acknowledges the staff of the Riverview Health Centre for their compassionate and attentive care. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 2 at the Saint-Boniface Cathedral. Interment of the cremated remains will take place at the Saint-Boniface Cemetery at a later date.
