Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVICTOR WAINWRIGHT Peacefully on Friday morning, January 30, 2009 Victor Wainwright a dear husband, father and grandfather passed away at the age of 87. Remaining to cherish is memories are his wife of 58 years Elinor and two sons Brian (Laura) and Bill (Gail). Victor had three granddaughters Kaitlan, Lauren and McKenzie. Victor is survived by his brothers Leslie and Fred (Grace). He was predeceased by his parents Gertrude and James, Sister Evelyn and brother-in-law Jack Hollowell and sister-in-law Violet. Victor was born in Winnipeg on April 1, 1921 the oldest of four children. He grew up in Weston, graduating from Daniel McIntyre High School. As a young man he worked in a hatchery and enjoyed racing pigeons with his buddy George Burgess. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940 and served his country in Great Britain and briefly in North Africa. Upon his return to Winnipeg in 1945 Victor began a 40 year career working at Strong Scott Ltd. He worked as a machinist then later returned to school to become a draftsman. He retired in 1985 at the age of 64. After retiring Victor and Elinor enjoyed many trips across Canada and the United States together. Victor enjoyed socializing with family and friends and a good game of cards. He was also an avid Blue Bomber football fan attending games as a season ticket holder into his early 80s. The family would like to send a special thanks to all the staff of 3 north at Calvary Place Personal Care Home for their kindness and loving care over the past four years. A memorial service and reception will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 5, 2009 at Neil Bardal Funeral Chapel located at 3030 Notre Dame Avenue in Winnipeg.
