DOROTHY (DODIE, DOT) RITCHIE (FRANDSEN)
Date of Passing: Jan 29, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY (DODIE, DOT) RITCHIE (nee FRANDSEN) After a brief illness, Dorothy passed away peacefully on January 29, 2009, while in Victoria, B.C. Dorothy was born and raised in Winnipeg and spent her entire life there. Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her husband of 66 years, David. Also left to mourn are their four sons, John (Ruth), Paul (Wendy), Craig and Barry (Terry). She is also survived by grandchildren; Lesley (Cello), Janet, Karen, Ainsley, Spencer, Pamela (Craig), David, Brendan, Sean, Aidan and Marlise. Dorothy was an only child who was raised by her father Edward Frandsen. Due to her academic prowess, she was hired by Great West Life after high school. Since she had no other siblings she took tremendous pride and joy in her own children and grandchildren. She was very giving to her family and nothing made her happier than family gatherings. After an original career at Great West Life, she met Dave and they were married on January 22, 1943. Shortly thereafter she embarked on her career as mother and supporter of Dave. The bond between Dorothy and Dave was remarkable and they were very devoted to each other. Dorothy always took time to look after others and she volunteered for the McKinnon Hospital guild for over 40 years. She greatly enjoyed her time there working in their nearly new shop and also serving as president for one year. Dorothy and Dave enjoyed winter vacations, spending many winters in Hawaii and had spent the past 18 winters in Victoria where they had many friends. Summers for the past 50 years were spent at Falcon Lake, a site of countless memories with good times and good friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria for all their support as well as the Royal Scot Hotel for their support and dedication. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the charity of ones choice in Dorothy's memory. Funeral services are to be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 4 at Fort Garry United Church with a reception to follow. A private interment will be held later with family.

As a good friend of Paul's, I would like to say that Mrs. Ritchie was always so very warm and welcoming to me. Always smiling and always had a way of making me feel that she was really happy to see me, that I was someone who she believed was a somebody. I am grateful for that and would like to say that she did have an impact on life and confidence, as did Mr. Ritchie. Best wishes to Paul and the entire Ritchie family. - Posted by: RICK SIMPSON (Friend) on: Feb 02, 2009
