DR. ALLAN V. GOLDSTEIN February 14, 1920 - January 24, 2009 It is with great regret that we announce the passing of Allan Goldstein. He is mourned by his wife of 57 years, Myrna; his children, Larry, Ellen and David; their spouses, Susan, Ray and Pily and grandchildren, Kirby, Casey, Lauren and Benlloyd. He grew up in Toronto where he attended the University of Toronto Medical School and was a student when the Second World War broke out. He immediately volunteered ultimately becoming a Captain in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps assigned at various times to troop trains, army bases and being the doctor for a prisoner of war camp. In 1947, after moving to Saskatchewan, he opened the new Medicare hospital in his town complete with Premier Tommy Douglas cutting the ribbon and proclaiming that it would be the first of many . Al spent about nine years there becoming the District Coroner and providing all of the care for the town and surrounding area including emergencies, obstetrics and performing anesthesia and surgery. This was followed by 37 years of practice in Winnipeg and by the time he retired with his beloved Myrna to Vancouver had brought over 3500 lives into this world and touched the lives of thousands. He loved tennis and bridge and devoted his life to his patients, family, friends, charitable causes and Israel and served his country honourably and with pride. Dr. Allan Goldstein, dedicated son, brother, soldier, doctor, husband, father, grandfather, friend and gentleman.
