MICHAEL WEINHANDL Peacefully, and after a short but strong battle, on Friday, January 30, with his family at his side, Dad passed away and joined his loving wife Theresa (nee Fleischhacker) after seven years and one month without her. Mike, Dad, Opa, the alte Affe and most recently Pepa will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter Ann (Don) Petsche; grandchildren, Stephen (Noella), Stephanie (Dale); two great-grandchildren, Brheann and Ella; his great-granddog Spencer the Pug; sisters-in-law, Margaret and Elizabeth of Winnipeg; brother George (Erna) in Hampton, Minnesota and from Austria, brothers, Paul (Suzie) and Leo (Kathl), sisters-in-law, Kristine, Elizabeth and Anna; and brother-in-law Josef. Dad was born in Apetlon, Austria on February 12, 1926 and came to Canada in 1954 with his wife Theresa and daughter Ann, to start something new filled with hopes and dreams. Dad worked for most of his time here in Winnipeg at Greensteel Industries where he moved up through the ranks and eventually retired when he was 68 because he loved it and they asked him to stay. Their lives here in Winnipeg were filled with many triumphs and legendary get-togethers, but most importantly their home, their family and friends. To everyone his junior he was not Mike or Mr. Weinhandl, he was just simply Opa , but you had to watch out for his fast hand slaps on the knees and neck pinches. Many of the uninitiated fell victims to this game. Dad's pride and joy were his two great-grandchildren and always talked to everyone about his Little Ones , the little Rupfels. We will always cherish you in our hearts and never forget you - Ein Prosit!! Our family wishes to express our sincerest thanks to everyone at the Victoria General Hospital and the ICU staff for everything they did and for their great compassion and friendship during his stay. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial celebration will be held at the Glen Lawn Funeral Home on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. David Brabant presiding. Interment will immediately follow the celebration. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 982-7550
