PAUL MAZUR June 23, 1919 January 31, 2009 Paul passed away on January 31, 2009 in the Selkirk General Hospital, free from pain. Paul was born in Melrose, Manitoba to Frank and Katherina (nee Stepko). He was the sixth in a family of eight. As Paul grew up, he learnt the value of hard work. He met Mary Chopek at a dance at the Half Moon and they were soon married in June of 1942 at Cook's Creek Ukrainian Catholic Church. Soon Mom and Dad were blessed with three daughters, Paulette, Marlene and Darlene. Dad was a mentor of hard work and accomplishments. Together Mom and Dad had a wonderful homestead and farm. The value of his family were very important to him. He was very proud that throughout his life, his daughters and their families were always there for them, and got along very well together. There was always lots of laughter and jokes when we all got together for family events. In 1974 Mom and Dad decided to leave the farm and move into Selkirk. They lived in their home for many happy years. Time was spent by gardening, especially potatoes, fishing, garage sales and talking with all! Dad was very social and enjoyed meeting all kinds of people. About two years ago, Mom and Dad decided to sell the house and move into a condo. There they made lots of friends, and Dad enjoyed watching the fishing off the docks. Though Dad had a very fulfilling and long life, we will all miss him dearly. Surviving is his wife Mary (nee Chopek); daughters, Paulette (Joe) Witko, Marlene (Edwin) Jackle, and Darlene (Glen) West; grandchildren, Deb (Dave) Yurchi, Susie (Dale) Witko, Tammy (Cyril) Witko, Lydia (Tino) Geric, Marianne (Duane) Kranendonk, Harmon (Caroline) Livingston, and Mason Livingston; great-grandchildren, Riviera and Teagan, Marissa and Avery, Jordan and Selena, and Bryson. Also surviving are his sister Emily Romanic; brothers-in-law, Walter (Thelma) Chopek, Victor (Terry) Chopek and sister-in-law Jean (Joe) Grabowski; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Katherina (nee Stepko); brothers, Steve (Mary), Leslie (Dora), and Harry (Katie); his sisters, Nettie (Frank) Florko, Annie (Roman) Panoski, and Sophie (Nick) Kolynchuk; and brothers-in-law, Louie Romanic and Lawrence (Sharon) Chopek. A special thanks goes out to Dr. Zoppa and all staff on the medicine ward. Your thoughtfulness and care meant so much to Dad, and his family. Thanks also go out to those who took the time to visit Dad during his long stay in the hospital. Those visits meant a lot to Dad. Special thanks to priests Fr. Peter Chorney and Fr. Dado Parrenas. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 5 at 10:30 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk with Fr. Peter Chorney officiating. Lunch will follow the service at the Holy Eucharist Hall. A private family interment of ashes will take place at the St. Clement's Cemetery Columbarium. Flowers are gratefully declined; donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, Mb, R3L 0K6. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
