RICHARD STEINKE 1927 - 2009 Our hearts are breaking. In the early hours of Wednesday, February 4th we lost our loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Richard was born in Winnipeg on October 13th, 1927 the eldest child of August and Mary. Richard and his siblings: Lillian, Herbert, Clifford, Malford, Velma, Walter, Janet and Randolph grew up on the family farm in Thalberg. It was on the farm that Richard developed a strong work ethic that made him an asset to Abitibi-Price, his employer of 32 years. The winter streets of Pine Falls were never better groomed than when he was behind the wheel of the grader! It was in Pine Falls that he and his wife of 53 years, Dorothy (nee Hobley) raised their children, Marilyn (Barry), Murray (Susan), Barbara (Allan), and Michele (Michel). His later years were blessed with the joy of making memories with his grandchildren, Deanna (Rodney), Alana, Erica (Randolph), Chad, Carter, Shane, Evan and Ryan and his great- grandchildren Brenen, Abbey, Mason and Myles. He will be dearly missed. Richard had a passion for cars, especially classic cars, and he took great pride in keeping his own vehicles shiny and new. There wasn't a car accessory, protective piece, or home-manufactured gizmo that his cars did not have! He could always be found tinkering in the garage. Broken eye glasses? No problem. Toaster burning bread? Easy fix. There was no job too big or too small for this meticulous handyman. He spent his down time laughing to the comedy of funny men like Victor Borge and Nestor Pestor and relished in the joy of sharing a giggle with his grandkids to the antics of Pink Panther. Special thanks to the staff at St. Boniface General Hospital ICUMS and to Dr. Ian McIntyre for his calm reassurance and professionalism. A private family graveside service will take place at Notre Dame du Laus Cemetery. All are invited to share in a Celebration of Life at the Manitou Lodge in Pine Falls on Saturday, February 7th at 1:00 p.m. Donations can be made in Richard's name to Church of the Advent, Pine Falls. Grandpa You will be missed' does not describe our sorrow, but we have chosen to celebrate the gracious gift of your life and with time our tears will dry and we will smile when we recall the years we were blessed with your wisdom, guidance and patience. We love you.
