MACKALENA DUCHARME (nee ANDREYCHUK) It is with sorrow we announce the passing of Mackalena on Monday, February 2, 2009, at the age of 94. She was born in Newdale, MB, on her parents' homestead before moving to Winnipeg where she attended William Whyte School. It was in Winnipeg where she met her future husband Jean Louis. They married in 1936 and had three children: Albert (Joyce), Gerald and Jeanette. Besides her children she is survived by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; also by her sister Kay of Hamilton and brother Martin of Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Honora; husband Jean Louis; sisters: Tina, Rosa, Mary; brothers: Peter and infant child Frank; daughters-in-law, Sheelagh (1969) and Yvonne (2007). Mother was a very industrious lady, in addition to running a household and raising three children, she started and ran Ducharme Hardware while Dad grew his construction company. She taught catechism at Christ the King Church and was very involved with Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed her time with the Riverside Lionnelles. Mom and Dad went on many southern trips before retiring permanently in California in 1968. Dad passed away in 1970, with Mom staying on and working in a variety of positions until we brought her back to Winnipeg in 2002. The family would like to thank the kind and supportive staff of St. Joseph's for caring for Mum.
