AIHLIN MCRAE BURWELL WALKER (nee TRIGGERSON) On Wednesday, February 4, 2009, Aihlin died at the Grace Hospice at the age of 80 years. Remaining to forever cherish Aihlin's memory are her three children, Patricia Dawn Pearce and Steven Schwartz, Lori Heather and George Ball, and Glen Derwood Walker; and her grandchildren, Jamie Ball, Jodi Ball and Ryan Walsh, Shanna and Morgan Walker, and Jesse, Andrew, and Jenny Pearce; and her great- grandchildren, Hayley and Carly Walsh. Aihlin McCrae Burwell Triggerson was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 27, 1928, the first child of Charles and Muriel Triggerson. She attended Gordon Bell High School and married Derwood Walker in 1949. They were life-long residents of St. James, Winnipeg, where they raised their three children. Aihlin was an extraordinary citizen of the city, province, and country. She was deeply committed to volunteer activities and community health services, serving as a board member of the Grace Hospital Foundation, a founder of Grace Hospice, and one of the original builders of the Grace Hospital. She was similarly committed to community church activities, most recently as an elder at Westwood Presbyterian Church. Aihlin was extensively involved in the local and provincial Progressive Conservative Party, hosting funding raising gatherings, organizing political events, attending Party conventions, and advocating for the Party's platform and issues. Most notably, Aihlin was known as a national leader in Canadian women's golf. She was president of the Ladies Executive of Breezy Bend CC, on the board of directors of St. Charles CC, the president of the Canadian Ladies Golf Association, and a member of the Women's Council of the World Amateur Golf Council. She served as the vice-chair of the Festival Committee of the Pan American Games from 1997-1999. She received the Canadian Ladies Golf Association's Distinguished Service Award for three consecutive years (2001-2003). Her extraordinary contribution to women's golf was recognized by her induction into the Manitoba Golf Hall of Fame and the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 2004, which was one of the most memorable moments of her life. Aihlin'a funeral service will be held on Monday, February 9, at 9:30 a.m. in the Westwood Presbyterian Church, 197 Browning Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grace Hospice, Grace Hospital Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba in her memory.
