DOROTHY BLACK It is with much sadness that the Black family announces the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother on January 31, 2009. Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband Cecil; parents Ira and Anna Figley, brothers Lyle and Malcolm Figley. Dorothy is survived by her loving children, son Robert (Fern), granddaughter Rachel; daughter Kelly; son Douglas (Deb); sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Mom had a busy life...she enjoyed ceramics, painting, garage sales, auctions, friends and family. We were lucky to have her as a stay at home mom during our formative years. She was a major force in the family run vending machine business Blackies Enterprises . Then off to work full time at Telephone Answering Service...ending her career as the voice with the Health Sciences communication centre. She forged many friendships with her fellow colleagues and neighbours and was known for her great sense of humour. Diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 1997, Mom was fortunate to move into Golden Links Lodge in 2000. For nine years she received excellent compassionate care. Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the staff and to Dr Salem. In keeping with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral service. Our family will celebrate her life with a private family gathering. Flowers gratefully declined. Kind thoughts and warm remembrances of Dorothy by those whose life she touched would be an honourable memorial to her passing. If friends so desire donations may be made to Quagga Stray Cat Rescue, the Alzheimer Society, or a charity of one's choice. To Those I Love and Those who Loved Me When I am gone, release me, let me go I have so many things to see and do, You must not tie yourself to me with tears; Be happy that we had so many years. I gave to you my love, you can only guess How much you gave to me in happiness I thank you for the love you each have shown, But now it's time I travelled on alone. So grieve awhile for me if grieve you must, Then let your grief be comforted by trust, It's only for awhile that we must part, So bless the memories within your heart. I won't be far away, for life goes on So if you need me, call and I will come, Though you can't see me or touch me, I'll be near And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear All of my love around you soft and clear. And then when you must come this way alone I'll greet you with a smile and say Welcome home.
