Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGWEN SHANKORIK (nee PETURSON) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gwen Shankorik on February 10th, 2009, at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Gimli, MB. Gwen passed away peacefully with her family by her side and the wonderful, caring hospital staff. Gwen was born and raised in Gimli, MB where she married Nick on November 5, 1949. Gwen and Nick resided in Winnipeg, Kenora, and enjoyed many summers at their camp in Wabigoon, just outside of Dryden, Ontario. Gwen's career was divided between the Kenora District Hospital and Pinecrest Home for the Aged where her gentle compassion was perfectly suited for her chosen profession. Gwen and Nick enjoyed their retirement in both Texas and Florida. Gwen's greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren. Gwen will be sadly missed by husband Nick, daughter Cindy and husband Joe Claessens and their children, Andrew, Riley, and Mark, Cambridge, Ontario. Grandaughter Suzie and husband Cam Kopansky, Athabasca, Alberta, and grandson Steven Shankorik and Jen, Canmore, Alberta as well as many nieces and nephews, sister-in-laws, and numerous lifelong friends. Gwen was predeceased by her parents Helga and Thorarin Peturson, brothers Herb and Baldur, sister Lillian and very recently her son Dwain. As per Gwen's wishes, there will be no formal service, but a celebration of her life will be held this summer in Gimli.
