H. DOREEN MUIRHEAD Peacefully, on Wednesday, February 11, 2009, at the Victoria General Hospital, Doreen Muirhead passed away at the age of 96 years. Doreen was predeceased by her husband, Gordon; her sister, Doris (Galt); her two brothers, Clare and Lloyd Falconer and her daughter-in-law Dorothy Muirhead. Doreen will be remembered for her strength and commitment to her family, Janice (Ed) Vidruk, and Maria (Mac) Helseth, Steven (Angie) Vidruk; Margaret-Ann (Fred) Smith and Kathy Smith (Glen Grist), Heather (Mark) Shayna; Brian Muirhead and Megan (Chris Heinbach), Jamie (Elizabeth); Pat (John) Silver and Karlee, Breanne and Emily, and nine great- grandchildren, Scott, Will, Justin, Lauren, Abby, Timothy, Wyatt, Bethany and Ellery. Doreen graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1934 with a degree in Home Economics and then taught prior to her marriage in 1938 to Gordon. She took great pride in her role as a wife, mother and homemaker. She lovingly created handwork projects and made the best oatmeal cookies ever! She volunteered in her church, and contributed her leadership skills to numerous community organizations. She was a longtime member of PEO, supporting educational opportunities for women. Doreen's church and her strong beliefs were a comfort to her throughout her life. She started each day with an inspirational Bible reading and remembered fondly her weekly prayer group meetings with dear friends Shelagh Douglas and Roz Friesen. She loved curling and golfing, her summers at the family cottage in the Whiteshell and her winter holidays in the south. During their retirement years, she supported Gordon during his return to the family farm at Harte. A day was not complete unless she had accomplished something . A celebration of Doreen's life will be held on Saturday, February 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba PEO Foundation or to Sturgeon Creek United Church.
