GLADYS HANNAH EDITH SUTHERLAND (THICKFOOT)

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGLADYS HANNAH EDITH SUTHERLAND (nee THICKFOOT) It with great sadness we announce the passing of Gladys on February 10,2009 at the Grace Hospital at the age of 85 years. Gladys was predeceased by her husband Roland Sutherland, her father, Thomas Thickfoot, mother Edith Thickfoot sister Connie, brother Vernon, son Ray Sutherland, and partner for many years Al Boyd. Leaving to mourn are daughter Valerie Cloutier, granddaughters, Arlyss Schoch, and Lindsay Cloutier. Gladys also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and special nephew, godson Mervin Sutherland. Gladys was raised in Dallas, Manitoba and came to Winnipeg at the age of 18. When arriving in Winnipeg, mom's first job was working at a mattress factory. Gladys lived with her sister, Connie where they spent fun tines going to movies and going roller skating at the Winnipeg roller rink. Gladys married Roland Sutherland on May 19, 1948. They lived a happy, but short life together. Roland passed away in 1959. Their son Ray passed away August 31, 1971, in a mining accident. Gladys worked for many years at Eaton's. During this time she met Al Boyd (Tex). The two of them lived 35 years together, moving to Thompson, Manitoba, to Winnipeg, Texas, and finally back to Winnipeg. Al and Gladys enjoyed travelling to Hawaii during the winter months, before deciding to reside in Texas for a few years. During this time in Thompson, Manitoba, mom enjoyed spending summers at their cottage at Paint Lake, entertaining with family and friends. Mom lived a happy and fulfilling life enjoying time with her family, especially her granddaughters Arlyss and Lindsay. We will always love you and keep you in our Hearts. A celebration of life service will take place at Wheeler Funeral Chapel, 211 Regent Ave. West, at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 16, 2009. Officiating is the Revered Steven Fehr.
