HAZEL HAINES With great regret, we must announce, on January 27, 2009, Hazel Bernice Haines (nee Gailbraith) of Winnipeg, MB, passed away at the Grace Hospice at 90 years of age. Hazel was predeceased by her beloved husband Richard and loving daughter Kathleen. Hazel is survived by her son Thomas Haines of Winnipeg; daughter Laurie Haines of Vancouver, BC; son Bruce Haines (Elizabeth) of Winnipeg; son Gordon Haines (Jodie) of Calgary, AB; and grandsons, Jethro and Benjamin and granddaughter Robin as well, numerous relatives and friends across Canada and the United States. Hazel began life in Cadillac, SK, assisting on the family farm and receiving her high school education and church teachings before leaving for Winnipeg in 1941. Upon her arrival in Winnipeg, Hazel began taking courses in her chosen career path of being a Health Care Professional. Upon graduation, Hazel began working at the Hospitals and it was here, that she first met her future loving husband Richard. Richard was a patient with injuries incurred during his service for his country, in the second World War. In 1943, Hazel and Richard were married in Winnipeg and began a long and fulfilling life together raising three sons and two daughters in Riverview. Throughout it all, Hazel continued her career at the Municipal Hospitals until she decided to leave and take care of Richard's elderly parents Alfred and Verna in the Riverview home. Hazel enjoyed travelling, reading, going out for dinners, getting dressed up, entertaining, going to church, going to the Manitoba Theatre Centre, Prairie Theatre Exchange, Winnipeg Symphony and Manitoba Opera with friends, until just these past few years, when her hearing would not allow her to enjoy it as much anymore. A service for Hazel will take place this Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Sturgeon Creek United Church, located at 207 Thompson Drive, Winnipeg, MB. The Reverend Bill Corkum and Lori Stewart presiding. Reception to follow. Flowers gratefully accepted through the Flower Patch (943-4263) or your Florist of choice. We wish to thank the Salvation Army for being, all Health Care Professionals, notably the ones at Riverview Health Centre and the Grace Hospice, the Government of Canada and Government of Manitoba for their continued support for Health Care in Manitoba.
