AGNES FERGUSON KELLY HEAMAN (nee Purves) Peacefully on February 15, 2009 in the presence of family, Agnes Heaman passed away at Carman Memorial Hospital. Agnes will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Beverly Beck (Peter), grandsons Jeff Hood (Michelle) and Ryan Hood (Jodie), great-grandchildren Camilla and Burke Hood, sisters-in-law Bessie Heaman and Lili Purves, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Bert; her brother, Albert; and her parents, Margaret and Alexander Purves. She was born on November 1, 1915 in Winnipeg. Her family moved to the Carman area, living in several farming districts before moving to Carman in the mid-1940s. She was a telephone operator until her marriage to Bert Heaman in June, 1952. They farmed in the Ostrander district until March, 1967 when they retired to her current home in Carman. Agnes loved people and was a member of a number of groups including the Ostrander Ladies Club, the Carman United Church UCW where she served a term as President, and the Order of the Eastern Star where she became Worthy Matron, and in the early 1980s served a two-year term as a Grand Rep to the State of New Jersey. She also taught Sunday School, Messengers and Vacation Bible School. She was an extremely talented piano player. She played for dances with several orchestras, for sing-songs at the Boyne Lodge every Thursday morning for over 30 years and for the Carman Seniors Friendship Centre Choir for about 20 years. She enjoyed watching her grandsons participate in all their sporting activities and never missed an event when she was visiting them. She was very proud of both of them. She was a very kind, giving and generous person and will be missed by many. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Carman United Church with Rev. Harold Kenyon officiating. Private interment will be held prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Doyle's Funeral Chapel of Carman in care of arrangements.
