Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNELLIE WINIFRED ARMSTRONG Nellie passed away February 13, 2009 at Portage District Hospital after a brief illness at the age of 96. Predeceased by her first husband Robert Stevenson; second husband James R. Armstrong and his son James F. Armstrong; brother Jim Thickett; and sister Marjorie Roy. Nellie was the oldest child of Matthew and Sarah Thickett. She is survived by her siblings Bill (Adeline) Thickett, Lily Glasman, Eileen (Bruce) McDonald, sister-in-law Edie Thickett and daughter-in-law Lenore Armstrong. A favourite aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother to many. Nellie never shied away from hard work and she had a great love and compassion for people. As a child, she helped her father in the fields with the horse team and her mother in the garden and in the kitchen preserving the wealth of their work. A dedicated wife, Nellie loved living on the farm and giving to her community. You could always find Nellie in the garden or baking or knitting or giving of her time to a neighbour or friend. Nellie remained active even as she moved into Third Crossing Manor and helped out as best she could. Nellie was a member of All Saints Anglican Church and cherished her time with the A.C.W. She often spoke with great fondness of teaching Sunday School, bake sales, and lunches. A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the All Saints Anglican Church, Gladstone, Manitoba with a lunch to follow.
