YENG TAI YUNG Yeng Tai Yung completed her journey of life, at age 95, peacefully at Riverview Health Centre on Sunday, February 15, 2009 with family by her side. She was predeceased by her father Yip Kay; mother Keen Tai; brothers, Hong Tan and Tan Chui; sisters, Quen Yee and Toi Yeng; husband Kwong Leung; and daughter Sun Wan. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Aliana Au (David) and grandchildren Michael and Amelia; her son Kashen Yung of Calgary; brothers Tanjo Yin of Barranquilla, Colombia and Tai Men Ching of Chicago, U.S. In addition, family includes many cousins, nephews and nieces in the U.S., New Zealand, and China. Yeng Tai was hard working her entire life. Economic and family circumstances, as well as political upheaval in China, required her to consider work opportunities outside of China and took her to places like Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Colombia, and finally to Canada. Yeng Tai was industrious, confident and capable, and did not shy away from hard work usually reserved for men. She farmed (without machinery) in China and Colombia, worked in building construction in Malaysia, assisted in midwifery, domestic help, was involved in the clothing and the salt trade in Hong Kong and China, and when she arrived in Canada, worked as a garment examiner for Rice Sportswear in Winnipeg. At the age of 79, she retired from work to follow her interest to study Chinese Classical Literature. She enjoyed going for daily walks and would often walk for up to four hours until she was 91. Even when her health failed, she still enjoyed Assiniboine Park and the Conservatory. She loved gardening, growing vegetables and flowers, which she was very good at, and in particular, orchids. However, the greatest pleasure was spending time with her grandchildren and family. She loved all children and enjoyed spending time with extended family and friends. A Celebration of Life in her memory will be held Friday, February 20 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, with cremation to follow. Family and friends are invited to stay for refreshments in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Grace Hospital or Riverview Health Centre. The family would like to thank the ER team at Grace Hospital, 3E team at Riverview Health Centre, palliative care and home care staff for their care. A special thank you is extended to Polly, Janet, Milca and her family. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
