SILAS EDWIN (ED) TAYLOR 1922 - 2009 Peacefully, on Friday, February 13, Edwin Taylor chose to fly beyond these earthly bounds. Ed is survived by his loving wife, Lillian, (married 53 years); brother Gordon; children, David (Christine), Gordon (Estee), Tracy (Jordy), Susan (Sean), as well as numerous grandchildren and extended family whom he loved so dearly. Born and raised in South Fort Rouge, Ed attended Kelvin High School and participated in athletics and swimming at the YMCA. He developed a talent for the piano which he honed overseas in Nottingham during his secondment to the R.A.F during the Second World War. Ed became an accomplished Spitfire pilot and eventually a flight instructor. He was an active member of the Wartime Pilots and Observers Association and engaged in numerous business ventures over the years including Riverview Hardware, the Belfry in Kenora and Birch River Arts and Crafts in McMunn. Ed gave the gift of music to all that he knew and this continues to live on in the talents of his grandchildren. He dearly loved his home and family, and everyone enjoyed hearing Ed's life stories. He recently completed his memoirs reflecting the history of his community. He lived his life by his R.C.A.F. motto; Per Ardua Ad Astra, Through Adversity to the Stars. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all the staff of the E5 wing of the St. Boniface Hospital for their outstanding compassionate care. A memorial to celebrate his life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, February 20 at the Park Theatre, 698 Osborne Street.
