IRENE HOWDEN Peacefully surrounded by love, Irene Howden passed away on February 12, 2009, at the Convalescent Home. Her memory will be cherished by her daughter Diane Muloin; grandchildren: Craig and Kristen (Marc) and great-grandchild Chris. She is also survived by her stepsons, Robert and Dr. Richard Howden and their families. She will be sadly missed by her sisters, Marguerite (Omer) VanWalleghem and Madeliene DeLeeuw; brother Ed (Jean) DeCruyenaere and many nieces and nephews. Irene was predeceased by her husbands, Raymond DeLeeuw in 1965, Dr. Robert L. Howden in 2001 and her brothers, Bert, Joe and Mike DeCruyenaere. Irene was born on July 15, 1922, to Marie and Alfred DeCruyenaere. She grew up in St. Boniface, graduating from St. Joseph's Academy. Irene and Raymond were married in 1941 and owned DeLeeuw Radio on Marion Street until 1956. She then returned to school, taking a Business Course and working weekends at the Vogue Dress Shop. Irene was employed with Pioneer Grain and after 17 years, retired as Manager of the Coal Department. Irene and Lorrie were married in 1973 and spent many happy years travelling and enjoying their cottage at Twin Beaches. Irene's boundless energy was spent cooking, gardening, pickling, knitting and entertaining family and friends. Irene was a compassionate and loving person, always willing to extend herself for others. Family, friends and a deep abiding faith were her greatest joys. Our heartfelt thanks for the gentle care, compassion and support given by the Convalescent Home staff. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 20, 2009, in Christ The King Church, 847 St. Mary's Road. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Irene may be made to a charity of your choice. The Coutu family in care of the arrangements: E. J. COUTU CO.
