PETER BEREZOWSKI With profound sadness, the family announces the unexpected, but peaceful passing of their father, Peter, aged 85, of Navin, MB on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at St. Boniface Hospital, with his family at his side. Peter leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter Patricia Aitken (Lock); his son Ron (Jan); granddaughters, Elizabeth (Alex Kozub), Melissa (Dan LeBlanc); great-granddaughter Hannah; mother-in-law Clementine Happychuk; sisters-in-law, Anne Staska, Jean Fraser, Elizabeth Happychuk; brothers-in-law, Bill Chukra, Bob Harris (Sherry) and many more extended family, as well as his faithful, four-legged girlfriend , Sandy. Peter was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary, February 16, 2006; his parents, Paul and Paulina Berezowski; father-in-law John Happychuk; sisters-in-law, Olga Chukra and Nellie Balcytis; brothers-in-law, Vic Balcytis, Richard Staska and George Fraser; first wife Katherine and son Georgie. Peter was born in the village of Trembovla, Western Ukraine, January 1, 1924, and immigrated to Canada at the age of 12. He and his parents were among the first homesteaders in the village of Navin. Peter worked diligently on the family farm, as well as at Modern Dairies, the CN Transcona Shops and finally Canada Post, first as a sub-contractor with John Dykes until the contractors became unionized with Canada Post. He retired as a driver with Canada Post at the age of 65 and took on a rural mail contract with them, which he held until he turned 80. Peter loved to meet and converse with people on his mail run and enjoyed encountering friends and acquaintances as he spent time at the shopping mall. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2009 at Green Acres Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Doug LeClair officiating.
