DORIS ADELAIDE BLAKESLEY (nee ARNOLD) December 24, 1921 - February 15, 2009 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at the age of 87 at West Park Manor. Doris will be sadly missed by her son Lee; daughter-in-law Bev; granddaughter Laura; as well as her brothers, Bill, Gordon (Lorna), Wally (Helen) and sister Joan (Ed) and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Phil and her parents, Jim and Violet Arnold. Doris was born and raised in Winnipeg and grew up in the West End. She attended Principal Sparling, Isaac Brock and Daniel McIntyre schools. During the war she worked at MacDonald Aircraft. She later worked at Eaton's and Zeller's. Doris loved children and in the early years of her marriage while raising her son Lee, she found time to look after several foster children, some of which were disabled. In her later years she enjoyed looking after her only grandchild Laura and spending precious time with her. Doris and her family enjoyed many years out at their cottage at Lester Beach and had many fond memories there with family and friends. Doris and Phil were members of the Charleswood Legion where they enjoyed playing in many Dart League competitions. She was proud of the many trophies and medals she won and made many friends there. She later became a member of the St. James Legion. Doris will always be remembered for her generous and loving nature. She always had a story to share and had a great sense of humour. Unfortunately in 1998 she suffered a major stroke, which took the gift of speech from her. The last few years were hard on Doris and her family. We'd like to thank the many family and friends who came to visit Doris over the years and for their support. A special thanks to the staff at West Park Manor for their excellent care during the past five years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. A memorial service will be held at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd. on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
