BERNHARD (BERNIE) CIROTZKI Peacefully on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, Bernie passed away at the Grace Hospice at the age of 73 years, with his loving wife Gisela beside him. With little complaint, Bernie bore the burden of his cancer, until he got so tired and couldn't hang on any longer. But not without putting up a good fight for over two years against the most deadly disease, pancreatic cancer. He is at peace now and without pain. Bernie was born on June 5, 1935 in Berlin, Germany. Bernie loved life. He loved listening to Big-Band music and dancing to it. He did a lot of traveling to Hawaii, Florida, Texas, Las Vegas, Reno, Jamaica, Mexico, Canada, various cruises and Germany. Bernie liked all kinds of sports; he was a very active 10 pin bowler from the years of 1957 to 2008. There are lots of trophies, certificates and medals to prove it. Also, Bernie enjoyed golfing; twice he had a hole-in-one, once in Northern Air and once in Bloomberg. Being very much involved in the ANAVET Unit #283, Bernie looked after the men's senior snooker league, a very special thanks to Fern Scanlon (Bernie's sidekick) who helped Bernie at his difficult time. Remaining to forever cherish Bernie's memory is his loving wife Gisela of 50 years. Bernie will also be sadly missed by his sister Evelyn (Dieter); brother-in-law Dieter (Helga); nephews and nieces in Germany, and not to forget all his friends and neighbors as well as all his bowling, golfing and snooker buddies, and everyone who got to know him. He was predeceased by his parents and younger brother Alfred. In compliance with Bernie's wishes cremation has taken place, and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Thank you to Dr. Jeromie Lipschitz, and Nurse Margaret for giving Bernie two more years of life. Dr. Gary Harding and Nurse Cindy, all the nurses at the Chemo Centre at HSC, Dr. Paul Daeninck and Nurse Tracy at the St. Boniface Hospital, Dr. St. Godard and all the staff at Riverview Health Centre, Mark Shepherd and his palliative care staff, the doctors and nurses at St. Boniface Palliative Care, and a final thanks to Dr. Hartley and everyone at the Grace Hospice for giving Bernie the loving care in the last days of his life. Beautiful place and wonderful caring people. Thank you all. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bernie's name to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 0V9, The Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3 or the Grace Hospice, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7.
