FREEMAN GODFOIS (GORDON) JOHNSON It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Gordon Freeman Johnson on Saturday, February 14, 2009, at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 76 years. Remaining to cherish Gordon's memory are his children Darlene (Regier), and Darryl; his brother Jack, (Linda); sisters Margaret and Doreen; brother-in-law Reginald; grandchildren Kristina, Tyler, Justin, Kama, Natasha, Forrest, Jayme and Christopher; two great-granddaughters McKenzie and Madeline, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Freeman and Eva; his sister Myrtle, brother-in-law Norm and best friend Abby. Gordon was born to the late Freeman and Eva Johnson in Shellbrook, Saskatchewan on May 6, 1932. During the Korean War, Gordon served as a volunteer protecting our freedom. Throughout his life he never missed an opportunity to listen, challenge, and care deeply for all those who were honored in being a part of his world. Gordon especially enjoyed hunting and fishing and working with his hands and over the years he built many projects for family and friends. Later in life Gord developed a passion for cooking and was proud to prepare dishes for anyone who was privileged enough to join him in a meal. After retirement, Gordon always looked forward to the countless hours he spent visiting with his brother Jack. And Jack always said; Gordie was the best; Best Man . For all who shared in his life, we will forever have a void in our hearts. We will miss his broad sense of humor, warm smile, generous disposition and his strong love for family and friends. Gordon's memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 2157 Portage Ave. at Sharp Boulevard. Interment will follow at a later date in Field of Honour at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 2B7, in Gordon's honour.
