ANITA MARIE GLORIA MCCANN TONI (nee LEONARD) May 17, 1933 - February 24, 2009 With her family at her side, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear, beloved Mom, Toni. As she continues on with her journey she will be greatly missed by her family: daughter Dale (Keith) White, son Gary (Barbara) McCann, daughter Karen (Edward) Cook, daughter Diane (Ken, Jason and Kody) Botterill, her two grandchildren, Jenna and Sean McCann, and her brother Rene (Ruth) Leonard. Toni also leaves behind many in-laws and their families as well as many wonderful friends and neighbours. Toni was predeceased by her loving husband, Ward in 1998 plus three sisters and two brothers. Toni grew up in St. Boniface, graduated from Holy Cross School and married Ward in 1953. She was a member of the Winnipeg Kinettes and worked part-time at various places which included the Toronto Dominion Bank, Videon Cable TV, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Play-All Club Trophies, and for many years worked alongside her husband at their insurance agency in Windsor Park where they retired from in 1995. Toni and Ward raised their four children in St. Vital in a home they built where Toni loved her backyard pool. Many weekends were spent entertaining family, friends and neighbours. Toni raised her children with love and support and was always there for them, making them each feel special thus creating a close family. When Toni and Ward became empty-nesters, her favourite place became their cottage on White Lake where family and friends always felt welcomed. Many cherished memories were made at their Golden Pond . Toni enjoyed travelling with her family to Los Angeles, Phoenix, Palm Springs, Banff and Niagara Falls. With the help of her travel agent Diane, Toni lived her dream of visiting Las Vegas and Maui. As Gary and Barbara along with Jenna and Sean live in Florida, this was an ideal location for many enjoyable, warm vacations. Toni also loved to visit Diane and Ken in White Rock plus Dale and Keith in Toronto. Having Karen and Edward close to home kept her coming back! Toni's love for life and her laughter were so very infectious. Not once did she complain about anything! Everyone she met was touched by her sweet, endearing smile and warm, caring eyes. She truly did live life for the moment and that way of living has been instilled in each of her children. Toni's family wishes to thank her late brother-in-law; Borden Dackiw, you were her hero and angel. Sister-in-law; Ethel Dackiw, always there with love and support. Gratitude and love are also extended to Toni's nephews; Alan (Elizabeth) Dackiw, and Steven (Marni) Dackiw. Thank you to Toni's friends; Marg and Leo, for making her laugh; Lori for keeping her entertained, Dora and Dave along with Kay and Nancy, very special neighbours and also to her doctors, nurses and homecare aides plus numerous relatives and friends. Thank you all very much for your respectful, kind and gentle care. Toni's life will be celebrated with a service at St. Vital Cemetery on Monday, March 2 at 12:30 p.m. immediately followed by a gathering at the Niakwa Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations for CancerCare Manitoba are greatly appreciated. There are angels walking on this earth disguised as Moms. Thank you for being our sweet angel. We love you.
